CCSR's president recently joined CRI president Sandy Ramsey and the CRI team in Asia to form partnerships with local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). CRI allied with several NGOs working to allieviate the impact of war and insurgency on widows and other women in the region. For a full account of CRI's accomplishments, go to Sandy's blog on CRI's website.

During the trip CRI established working relationships with two pivotal support groups for war affected women in Asia. To gain insight into the issues these organizations face (and appreciation for how much better we have it here) follow these links to:

Every year gets more interesting for Crisis Recovery International. We continue to work with local nonprofits around the world who are in need of help to accomplish their goals. Last year (2009) we were active in China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Our Board members and advisors spent much of their time traveling and working at disasters and in other countries.
|
Our president took her 9 year old granddaughter to Vietnam and volunteered in a school. In addition, with dollars you donated, we purchased video, computer, and projector equipment for the school to use in the English program they wanted to start. We were told that if the children don't learn English by the time they leave school, then they are already out of the job market. Thanks to your donations, they are now on their way to getting their English program started.

| Andy, our agricultural specialist, went to Chengdu, China and the disaster areas in the spring to see if he could help with the productivity of the goats CRI had purchased months before. This time the people at the relocation camp requested goslings and CRI purchased goslings to leave at the camp. Andy also left additional donated dollars with the Chinese nonprofit to spend in a way that would benefit the earthquake survivors in the relocation camp. The leaders of the camp decided that an activity that would bring fun into the survivors lives would be beneficial so they staged the first "Crisis Recovery Games" (As translated by our China representative, Zhou Yizhou) .
As Andy Observes: "The most powerful thing to me was the scope of the devastation and the number of people in the relocation camps. The size of the area that was destroyed was staggering and I felt numb seeing the city. I felt so small compared to the immensity of the destruction. I did what I could and it felt good just to be there and to help. I think it is important to see those things first hand so you really get an understanding of what has happened. The people in the relocation camps were wonderful to me during my visit and I was glad that I could do something to help."

This past year, we have added new members to our Board of Directors and we are excited about new projects. In 2010, we are headed back to Vietnam, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka. We are communicating with organizations overseas and we have plans to get some new projects up and running. We are especially looking forward to trying to get some business incubators started for women. Our web site is completely redone, so if you haven't looked at it in a while, please check it out. We are trying to make it more user-friendly, so take a look and email any comments you might have that would make it more interesting to the readers. And then, don't forget to leave a donation! The work we do is only possible because of your support!
