Home to over 70 of the world's most endangered felines representing 18 of the 36 species of cats, EFBC's Feline Conservation Center is a breeding zoo and research facility. We educate our visitors, especially local schoolchildren, about the plight of the wild relatives of our felines and the importance of conserving them in the wild. We raise money to help a variety of wild feline conservation programs and research. Our officers are active in the Zoological Association of America and regularly consult with and/or teach other captive feline conservators on the care and breeding of these rare animals. Visitors regularly rave about the overall appearance and cleanliness of our facility. Our evening events such as the three Twilight Tours and August's Feline Follies are well attended and enjoyed.
In 2010 we plan to finish our largest-ever enclosure construction, Project Tiger, which will be used to breed these increasingly endangered cats. This project has been funded from private donations and grants, and built in-house, for a fraction of the cost most zoo would spend for a facility of its type. Two respected veterinarians are joining our Board of Directors and are currently involved in our first-ever chemotherapy treatment of a leopard with cancer. We are also importing cats from European zoos such as the Persian leopard, which no other facility in the United States is currently breeding. We hope our rare Pallas's Cats have another successful breeding season, and look forward to our Snow Leopards coming of breeding age.
